Abstraction and Emotion: An Analysis of Jason Martin's 'Day Paintings' - Damian Taylor
- First year second essay. The term analysis seems inappropriate for the largely conjectural second half - never-mind. Images of Martin's work can be found here
On Time: Time and Memory in 'Abstract' Painting - Damian Taylor
- Second year first essay. It lacks a conclusion of any worth - amongst other things. I thought it advisable to get the seemingly obligatory 'one bit of writing with reference to Deleuze' out of the way before the dissertation - keep my options open. Well, more honestly, I stated quite categorically before starting the essay that I wouldn't mention him. Consequently I got a bit of a shock when I actually thought about my bibliography.
Screen - Damian Taylor
- A wandering, wild and slightly demented gambol through a 'bewildering' array of issues; chiefly consciousness, time and history in relation to technolgy and painting. It comes from a woefully-ignorant-of-what-I'm-on-about postmodern theory stance. Most of what I was trying to say is only hinted at - more of a subtext. It links to other stuff on the wiki I think - Neil's The Singular and Serial and the second seminar of Tactics coming to mind. It's quite long. I ran out of room. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I want to write more.

To What Extent do Institutional and Organisational Structures Mediate the Nature and Experience of Art? - Gareth Lloyd1st year 2nd essay
- An essay that reviews the different forms of capital art can take; economic, social, cultural and symbolical, within multiple fields of production; as a source of financial assets, a financial investment or currency, club or network, or a reinforcement of our identity.
[edit] Susannah Flack
Art/Essence/Existence - Susannah Flack
- A lucid and cogently argued essay concerned with "the conflict of language and meaning in art, the deceit of transparency and the necessity of recourse to it". It engages with Heidegger's notions of essence and existence in Being and Time in the analysis of works by Brancusi, Judd and de la Cruz.

Theatricality Now - Peter Simpson

[edit] Beatrice Loft Schulz
- The original work tenuously stretched to the mandatory 2000 words
Let Them Eat Cake - The Cultural Myth of the Public Art Museum
- Due to copyright issues you will have to imagine the triumphal revolutionary paintings. The
bibliography is incomplete, sorry, but I would additionally refer you to a fantastic poem by WH Auden, called 'The Truest Poetry is the Most Feigning'
- My submissions are not neseccarily esays but for want of a better category I have put them here.
